The Privilege Project
The privilege project was a project where my class were taught the types of privileges people have. Then, for our project and to tie it back to math, we had to analyze and turn our data into fractions or percentages so the data actually meant something rather than it being just numbers. We had a lot of freedom in choosing what type of privilege we want to look into, to pick our partners and how we want to present our data. For the process, first we had to learn how to put our data into percentages and what the percentage would mean. Secondly, we had to explore different types of privileges there are, like gender privilege, race privilege, etc.. and then picking which one interested us the most so we actually have interest on doing the project. After we formed groups, the groups had to work together to come up with an experiment to do. My group chose to make a survey and survey students on their opinions. With the data we collected, we had to put it together so it would make sense. Overall, our data told us the high schoolers feel like they need to work harder and give extra effort in their work and how they dress.
